BBQ accessories for gas grills & more: The essentials you really need!

Whether you're a spontaneous weekend griller or a BBQ fan with real ambition, the right accessories will help you get the best results. What are the absolute must-haves, what's worth getting for your favourite recipes, and which extras will make your BBQ season a highlight? Here's our guide to accessories for gas, charcoal and other types of barbecues.

The all-rounder for every BBQ fan

You don't need much to get started on the BBQ. Charcoal BBQs or gas BBQs already come with the most important basics – and depending on the product, even with plenty of accessories. To get you started, you'll need:

Man grilling meat, vegetables, and tomatoes on a barbecue, with a woman holding bread.

Barbecue tongs: An absolute essential for any barbecue. Thanks to their extra-long handles and sturdy design, you can place food on the grill, turn it over, take it off and even move coals around. For optimal hygiene, it's worth having two pairs of tongs – one for charcoal and one for food, or one for meat and one for vegetables.

Man grilling meat and vegetables using a meat thermometer, with women in the background.

Grill thermometer: An essential accessory for cooking steaks and other cuts of meat that are crispy on the outside and juicy in the middle. You can also use it to check your barbecue is at the optimal temperature before you start grilling.

Barbecue tools with wooden handles and spices next to grilled vegetable skewers.

BBQ Knife & Fork: A sharp knife is a must-have in any good kitchen, and it's just as essential at the grill for meat, veg and more. A large BBQ fork can hold meat steady while you cut it, or help with flipping and moving food.

Basting Brush: For marinades, roasting juices, or a delicious crust – a basting brush with silicone bristles gets it all onto your food. Silicone is easy to clean and always flavour-neutral.

    BBQ accessories for special occasions

When you're ready to move beyond sausages and burgers and want to fire up the BBQ all year round, it's time to bring in some professional accessories. Their job? To help you achieve better cooking results and make barbecuing even safer. We recommend:

Smiling woman grilling fish and vegetables on a gas barbecue, man watching from behind.

Grill basket: Delicate fish, vegetables and other small or fragile foods are easier to handle and turn effortlessly in the basket. Available in various designs and shapes for different types of food.

Barbecue with meat, potatoes, and green beans cooking in a pan outdoors.

Grill pan: A grill pan is a real multi-tasker. It stops fat from dripping onto the coals, lets you grill vegetables, steaks or potatoes until they're perfectly crisp, and saves you money on disposable aluminium BBQ accessories.

Person adding arugula to a pizza on a pizza stone in a gas grill.

Pizza Stone: A pizza stone retains plenty of heat for a perfectly crispy base in minutes. Simply place it on a cold grill rack, preheat the grill to a high temperature, and then add your pizza.

Chicken and vegetable skewers on an outdoor wooden table, with salad and tulips.

Barbecue skewers: High-quality skewers are perfect for all sorts of small treats, from savoury to sweet. You can also use them for special barbecue recipes like stick bread or even tree cake.

Grill accessories for a spotless finish: BBQ care made simple

You don't need a lot of accessories to care for your grill and grate – thanks to a process called pyrolysis! This is the power of the grill's fire in action: food residue is burnt off the grate as organic components break down into ash at high temperatures. It's always a good idea to clean the grill while it's still a little warm. But be careful not to burn yourself!

These three helpers, for example, are ideal for grill care:

    • For more stubborn residue, we recommend a grill brush. The metal bristles make light work of any leftovers.
    • Aluminium foil is often on hand when you're grilling anyway. You can also use it for cleaning. Simply crumple it into a ball and rub it over the grate! This helps with light dirt.
    • If you want to clean the burners of a gas grill, use a plastic scraper. It's gentle on the material.

If you use cleaning agents, always make sure the formula is suitable for the material of your grill. Remove any residue thoroughly and let everything dry completely before you fire up the grill again.
