Sustainable Seafood

The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) is an international non-profit organisation on a mission to stop overfishing. For over 25 years, they have been working with fisheries, seafood companies, retailers and scientists to help protect the oceans around us and safeguard seafood supplies.

At Lidl GB, we’re proud to sell a range of wild-caught fish that’s certified to the MSC’s standard of sustainable sourcing. We previously won the MSC Mid-Size Retailer of the Year Award for 7 years running, and in 2021 we won the ASC UK Retailer Award for having the highest percentage of farmed products certified to their standard.

We’re committed to sourcing our own-brand seafood – be it fresh, frozen or tinned – from sustainable fisheries and responsibly managed farms. Learn more here:

GGN

The GGN label confirms that products were farmed in line with certified good farming practices which meet criteria across food safety, environmental protection, animal welfare, social responsibility, and supply chain transparency.

Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC)

The ASC label only appears on food from farms that have been independently assessed and certified as being environmentally and socially responsible. ASC standards set strict requirements for responsible farming, which encourage seafood producers to minimise the key environmental and social impacts of aquaculture.
