Warm toddler clothing for winter sports: what your child really needs!
The first outing in the snow with your toddler should be fun and safe. As small children cool down more quickly and spend a lot of time on the ground, the right winter sports clothing is essential. Use the tried and tested layering principle, high-quality snow clothing and important accessories to keep your child happy and warm when skiing, tobogganing or building a snowman.
The 3 layers: The basis for warm and dry toddlers
When it comes to winter sports for toddlers, the three-layer structure is essential to regulate the temperature and protect against moisture.
AI(1) The base layerMoisture management
AI(2) The insulation layer - mid layerStore and regulate heat
AI(3) The weather protection layer - shell layerProtects against wind and weather
AIIn addition to their main clothes, other clothing accessories are also important for small children, as they lose heat quickly through their head, hands and feet.
Gloves:
Choose waterproof mittens (not finger gloves). Mittens are easier to put on and take off and keep little hands much warmer as the fingers lie against each other.
Tip:
Pack a second pair to change into!
Ski socks:
Only one pair of thick, special ski socks (no normal socks on top of each other). They should avoid creases and fit well in the ski boot.
Head protection:
A thin balaclava under the ski helmet protects the head and neck from draughts.
Eye protection:
Children's ski goggles protect sensitive eyes from the sun, wind and glare.
Skin protection:
Sun cream and lip care with a high sun protection factor are essential in the mountains.
With this equipment, nothing stands in the way of safe and warm winter sports fun for your little one!
1. The base layer (Thermal underwear)
- Purpose: Wicks moisture (sweat) away from the skin.
- Top pick: Thermal underwear made from synthetic fabrics. The synthetic material blend keeps them warm even when damp.
- Avoid: Pure cotton holds onto the cold and doesn't belong under ski wear.
2. The insulating layer (Warmth)
- Purpose: Retains body heat.
- Top pick: A thin, breathable fleece jumper or fleece jacket. For very young children or extremely cold days, a fleece suit can also be a great choice as it won't ride up.
- Tip: Make sure the mid-layer is lightweight and offers full freedom of movement.
3. The weather protection layer (Outerwear)
- Purpose: Protects against wind, wet weather and cold.
- Top pick: A waterproof and windproof snowsuit or a ski jacket and ski trousers with a high hydrostatic head rating. An all-in-one suit is often preferred for toddlers as it stops snow getting down their back.
- Important: Reinforced areas at the knees and seat are ideal, as little ones spend a lot of time sitting and playing in the snow. Bright, vibrant colours ensure better visibility on the slopes! Is such a product available?
