Meet Tom, our strawberry grower
Tom’s family have been growing soft fruits in the Midlands since the late seventies and they’ve got punnets of juicy info on what it takes to get a Lidl strawberry from field to store.
‘We start early morning – 5am in the height of summer! The fruit will go from field to storage within one to two hours; shortly after, to the distribution centres and onwards to stores. A perfect strawberry for me is sweet, juicy and aromatic.’
All of Tom’s strawberries are picked by hand to ensure only the ripest fruit make it to Lidl stores – and since all the produce is packed on the farm, the last person to have handled your strawberry will have been the picker themself.
