The perfect equipment for the cold season
In the cold season, the world is a winter wonderland of adventure, and children love getting out and exploring, especially if it's snowing. The right gear is important to make sure they are protected against the elements. Read on for how to keep your child nice and snug outside this winter.

Dressed well layer by layer - hello, onion look!
The onion look is the best for ensuring your child is winter-proof. Each layer has a special function. The first layer forms a thermal cushion around the body and sits directly on the skin. Intermediate layers provide additional insulation and help to wick away moisture. The top layer prevents water or wind from penetrating. The closer a layer is to the skin, the more breathable and skin-friendly it should be. The further out, the thicker it should be. A top combination for little adventurers? Cotton thermal underwear, a cosy jumper and waterproof trousers and jacket.

Crack the outdoor code
You can determine the functionality of water or windproof outdoor clothing before you buy it. For example, for rain resistance, the water column (in mm) indicates how much water a garment can keep out before it lets moisture through. High values mean more protection, from 10,000 mm even a heavy downpour is no challenge. Terms such as water-repellent, water-resistant and waterproof are easier to decode. Water-repellent fabrics offer light protection, water-resistant clothing keeps out moderate moisture, waterproof garments do not let anything through at all. You can tell whether an outdoor companion is windproof by whether it has taped seams, a concealed zip and snug-fitting cuffs.

No chance of cold feet or hands
The perfect winter shoes for children are excellently lined, have a waterproof outer layer and, above all, a non-slip sole. A high shaft stabilises the ankle so that nothing goes wrong on slippery surfaces. When buying, remember that the toes need enough room, especially if your child is wearing extra-thick cosy socks. Of course, a hat, scarf and gloves are also essential. Go for accessories such as tubular scarves or multifunctional scarves. This way, nothing can slip or constrict. Younger children usually feel most comfortable in mittens.
Extra tip: To ensure that winter clothing for children aged between 2 and 8 years fits for more than one season, make sure the cuffs are elasticated and the materials are stretchy.
Hibernation for outdoor clothing
To ensure that functional clothing lasts a long time, wash it at low temperatures and without fabric softener. When spring arrives, store winter clothing in a dust and moisture-proof place. Make sure they can "breathe".
