Lidl named winner of supermarket own branded spirits range of the year at International Spitits Challenge 2015
Lidl has triumphed at this year’s ISC Awards after beating Aldi and Sainsbury’s to be crowned the much sought after title of Supermarket Own Branded Spirits Range of the Year .
The supermarket took the trophy for the first time at last night’s prestigious ceremony held at Honorable Artillery Company, London, alongside an audience of the industry’s biggest leaders. The win follows Lidl’s success at The Grocer Gold Awards, where it walked away with the top award of the evening being crowned as Grocer of the Year.
Commenting on the achievement, Lidl UK Ben Hulme, Head of Beers, Wines and Spirits said: “This is an incredible achievement and a great reward for all the hard work that has gone into delivering these top quality spirits. More and more people are recognising Lidl as a bona fide alcohol provider, with old preconceptions continuing to change all the time. This award helps to reinforce the growing trust and loyalty that the British public have in us.
“We are committed to investing in our own brand ranges so that we can offer our customers premium products at the lowest possible prices, helping them to shop a little smarter and save as much money as possible, every single day.
The win reflects Lidl UK’s continued growth and its success in changing public opinion, which has led to more shoppers discovering the excellent value that can be found at the supermarket, which first launched in the UK 21 years ago.
Since first establishing itself in the UK 1994, Lidl has gone from strength to strength, with 620 stores across England, Scotland and Wales, and an aggressive expansion plan that will see the retailer opening more stores throughout the year, whilst refurbishing existing stores to help cater for its growing customer base. This comes as the supermarket reaches its record market share of 3.9% this month, according to Kantar World Panel.
