Detoxing our textiles
It's hard to source good produce from a poisoned planet, and as a retailer we are dependent on the well-being of the wider environment – not just those areas we get our products from.
We recognise the urgent need for eliminating industrial releases of all hazardous chemicals. In response we have pledged to meet the goals at the Greenpeace’s Detox commitment to eliminate the discharge of all hazardous chemicals from the whole lifecycle and all production procedures of apparel and footwear products no later than 2020. For us this commitment provides the framework for a long-term vision.
We recognise that, to achieve this goal, mechanisms tor disclosure and transparency about the hazardous chemicals used in our global supply chains are important and necessary. In line with this principle we will deliver full transparency of our restricted substance list and audit process, and will set up full public disclosure of discharges of hazardous chemicals in our supply chain.
We also fully and publicly support systemic change to achieve zero discharge of hazardous chemicals within one generation or less. This commitment includes sustained investment in moving industry, government, science and technology to deliver on systemic change and to affect system change across the industry towards this goal.
